Outdoor Kitchen
Kitchen with a view. This outdoor kitchen keeps the house cool for summer cooking and fall canning and is a hub for social gatherings on the property.
This project was for one of my favorite clients who always proposes practical ideas and gives me creative license to suggest how we can make it beautiful and functional.
The client’s house is older with poorer insulation and so they can keep it from overheating in the summer by using this outdoor kitchen instead plus processing food out of their extensive gardens is a snap with this amenity.
With the gorgeous view it also is a natural center for both family meals and social gatherings from spring to fall.
The structures materials were milled on-island from sustainably and selectively harvested timber. I used mortise and tenon joinery for the front post and beam connection and GRK RSS housed joinery on the other components. The timber was finished with Outdoor Defense oil which is a combination of tung oil, citrus solvent and boric acid. The stone is locally sourced sandstone.
The kitchen components were partially recycled materials and partially fabricated from the same on-island sustainable timber source. The live-edge splash board and trestle leg table were finishing touches that I loved making. Shade cloth is applied to the clear roof during the hottest season to make the kitchen comfortable to work in.
While I do a large variety of projects including artistic interior finish, structural renovations, and even new-home builds, I think building these small scale timber structures are my favorite category of building. Let me know what I can build for you!!
